I definitely have a lot of room for improvement with the SUP technique.

JSW- Yeah, I have to hand it to you.

Dad- I'll bring the helmet camera next time I'm out. I just feel a little dorkier than usual wearing the helmet on a SUP because I'm closer to the beachgoers on shore and there's no sail to hide behind.James Douglasshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15380226220764974087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124426997314960696.post-39443123122837885302011-06-27T11:13:50.953-07:002011-06-27T11:13:50.953-07:00When do we get to see you SUPing with a paddle ins...When do we get to see you SUPing with a paddle instead of a sail?Johnny Douglasshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02103363529913545124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124426997314960696.post-19559651921338740902011-06-27T10:43:03.580-07:002011-06-27T10:43:03.580-07:00I'd like to gloat about being right concerning...I'd like to gloat about being right concerning windsurfable SUPs. So I will!

I don't have to step too far back to turn my 11'6 amundsen, but then again I'm a big guy.JSW225https://www.blogger.com/profile/10100092598603142846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3124426997314960696.post-24157979627504816242011-06-27T08:33:36.869-07:002011-06-27T08:33:36.869-07:00To turn these long SUPs, Jerry Evans says "ru...To turn these long SUPs, Jerry Evans says "run to the stern". That is, you really do need to step back pretty far to be able to get any sort of down-the-line action. The shape of the rocker will dictate just how far you have to go; and at what point the board will stall. Of course, you can also just dig the paddle into the water behind the board and use it to pivot around.

My 11'3" Amundsen has a pretty flat rocker, so I've got to step back a bit to keep the nose from pearling when I catch a wave. And I've got to step back even farther in order to get it to turn. YMMV.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01215917049871036354noreply@blogger.com
