Still smiling...

Bush still smiling

"US President George W. Bush poses with an injured soldier at the Center for the Intrepid, Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio November 2007. The death toll of US soldiers in the five-year Iraq conflict has hit 4,000 in what the US military said Monday was a 'tragic' loss of lives after four troops were killed in a Baghdad bombing." This is what 4000; just the number; looks like:

This is how many of those brave lives I think our heartless joker of a president is worth:

how about these lives?

Cammar- Thank you for the link! I was hoping someone would bring that up. 82,000+ Iraqi civilians have died so far in this war; about 20 for every coalition soldier killed. It's a living hell over there. I think the only thing we've acheived by ousting Saddam Hussein has been to replace one murderous, secular tyrant with many murderous, religious tyrants, i.e. Moqtada Al Sadr.

War just doesn't seem to WORK on people who have crazy, intolerant beliefs and no fear of death. It just escalates to the point of genocide. We need a different strategy. Any ideas?

War has never WORKED but we are animals and in the end we fight for suvival. Does anyone know how many homisides are committed accross the US in the time period for the iraqi war? There are no easy good answers? They don't fear death because they have nothing to loose? More people have died in the name of religon than any other. Poor people give their life for a cause. Everyone else fights for money.

Frank- You're right on about "no easy answers". Although I think we could make progress by addressing some of the roots of conflict that you mention. Perhaps we could start by changing our energy and drug policies to dry up the sources of revenue for terrorists and islamofascist regimes.

look I am totally against Bush and the Iraq War(any war actually) but do we remember that Saddam Huessin Killed as many as 600,000 in two wars. Not to metion many many other murders that together probably total much more than 1,000,000

James Douglass said...

Badneck- Yeah, Saddam ruled in the worst kind of way; basically killing and torturing anyone who disagreed with him. He was as bad as they come. I guess now our challenge is; how do we pacify the warring factions of Iraq without resorting to the same tactics that Saddam used, or letting an equally brutal successor take his place? It's damn depressing.

PS- Sorry for removing our windfest discussion. It was cool, I just thought it was a little too far off-topic to be the first comment in this particular post.

You can either have the same result fighting the terrorists in Iraq or you can fight them in the streets of America. Last time they struck in America 3,000 lost their lives. I'd prefer to fight them on their turf than here.
