My New Home?

1180 Carlton Ct
Fort Pierce, FL 34949

Looks like this is where I'll be living, as of labor day. The Smithsonian marine lab is right there on the causeway so I can walk to work. Also, it has not escaped my notice that I'm surrounded by warm ocean water. Schweet! I hope all the hurricanes are near misses.

Chevere! Where will you park your boards and sails? Is there room for your Mom and Dad to crash there when they come to visit?

I'll take my boards in through the patio door and have them on display in a room where I can cherish them. When you and mom come to visit I'll skootch them out of the way.

Hey James looks like you aaron and I all moved this summer. I made the move from the eastern shore of MD to the Jersey Shore. Its not all bad though I'm about 5 miles from lakes bay and extreme windsurfing. Hope the florida works out for you. Think u'll be making the drive north to hatteras at all?

You're joining us for winter board tests. No, you don't have a choice.

Uglyjiber- Heck yeah I'm joining y'all for the winter board tests! My seagrass experiments are going to be up there around Cape Canaveral, anyway.

I think you're gonna have a ball down there, dude. I'm really interested to hear how you compare the conditions at the two different locations. I used to sail a lot more in Florida, but I was not job-locked like I was when I lived in DC.

I see your future: Kona schlog down the river mouth... to perfect peeling left handers off the jetty... Oh you are a lucky man!

Just read that you are moving to Ft Pierce, FL! I used to live there and used to go to the beach not 5 minutes from where you are at. Living in windless Tallahassee now.... Ft Pierce was before (well, in between) my windsurfing days, but let me know if you need any info, help or whatever. sbonda@visitflorida.org or stevenbonda@comcast.net.

Actually, there IS wind not too far from Tallahasee. hit 20knotsnob.com for more details. Shell Point is a great sailing venue, alligator point offers some more terrain, St. George Island offers epic North East that would put a lot of good sailors to shame.

James, glad you're in for FL, when are you getting to the Gorge so we can meet face-to-face?

James Douglass said...

Steve- Thanks for the warm welcome to Florida. Hope we can sail together sometime.

Uglyjiber- I'll be in the Gorge sometime between Aug 10th and 16th. I sent you an email to coordinate. What kind of wetsuit(s) would you recommend for this time of year? My options are 6 mm full, shortsleeve longleg 3 mm, or shorty 2 mm. Or trunks.

Uglyjiber. Thank you for your post. Yes, I am actually just about to become a member of the local club here. But, having recently picked up the sport again (about 3 months ago) the wind hasn't blown over 12 or 13 knots! But fall is right around the corner.....
